Our trip to Sorrento was very successful - aside from arriving at Gatwick less than 10 minutes before the check-in closed due to appalling traffic on the M25 and the worst inflight catering since the Wright brothers first trip. Managed to get lost leaving Naples airport and went on an informal 2 hour tour of the back streets of Naples before locating the AutoStrada. Weather was perfect - warm and sunny, Sandra even went swimming in the sea. Pompei was interesting but probably not a candidate for a return visit, Capri was spectacular but the road down the coast to Amalfi and Positano was the most amazing.
Did quite alot of walking and the conditions were ideal for that - don't think I'd fancy it in the height of the summer.
Having arrived back Thursday night I set off circa 9.00am Friday for Anglesey for the "Stormgathering" sea kayak symposium with a friend from the canoe club. Had a paddle on Friday but Friday night the wind got up and driving rain [ real test of how well the tent was nailed down - several others collapsed overnight and quite a few people ended up in their cars. Force 9 gusting 10 on Saturday and I opted for a shorebased session and a visit to Holyhead Coastguard - all but 8 of the 80 attendees opted to paddle!
Sunday was only force 6 so we all went out - 3 instructors to 6 clients so safe [ ish ] and tried some fairly wild water by my standards - managed not to capsize only due to bracing strokes driven by fear , certainly a steep learning curve. Did not paddle on Monday, back to classroom for navigation exercises.
Slept all day Tuesday and back for pool session Wednesday to try to perfect roll - hum, well maybe next week.
